First date
It's ridiculous. She has no idea why she's so nervous.
Back at Barden, they'd never actually done this. Yeah, they'd gone out to dinner together, obviously, but they'd never really bothered dating. After that first kiss at Lincoln Center, they'd just sort of fallen into being together, completely. No awkward dinner dates required. Still, Jesse wants to start over, and Beca can see the wisdom in that. They both different people than the other one remembers. They need to figure each other out again.
She spent most of the day looking for a dress. Hopefully, he'll like this one. God. Why is she so nervous?

Which was what tonight was about. Jesse was all dressed up in a suit and had a bouquet of flowers for her as well. Taking a deep breath he knocked on his door and hoped they didn't make a mess of this.

"Wow," she says. It slips out before she can get hold of it. "You look..." Handsome. Amazing. Kind of spectacular. "You look great."
no subject
"I guess now would be a bad time to tell you that we're just going to hang out at my place and watch a movie?" he said, offering her the flowers. He wasn't sure if Bellas colors would be good or bad but he'd decided to take a risk.

The fact that the colours are Bella colours doesn't surprise Beca at all - it's exactly the sort of thing that Jesse does. Thoughtful might as well be his his middle name. The way he's looking at her, she flushes, her cheeks warming up to the touch. She doesn't get dressed up like this very often but she figures a first date with Jesse this time around has got to be worth it.
She takes the flowers, leans in and kisses his cheek.
"If you're serious, I'm changing before we go."
no subject
Not that he didn't want to sit around his apartment and watch movies with her but that wasn't going to help them get to know each other again, or whatever this was. That was just hanging out, tonight they were going on a date. A real date.
"I know a fun little jazz club that's not too far that's pretty amazing. I think you'll like it."
no subject
First date, she tells herself. It's a first date. It's a first date. What she really needs to focus on is forgetting everything that she knows about him, about being in a relationship with him. She needs to be okay with starting over with this guy, the guy Jesse is now.
"Do i get dinner too, or is it just jazz on the menu?"

One thing that Beca's pretty sure won't have changed is the fact that Jesse is an excellent dancer and she feels this little flutter of excitement at the thought of dancing with him.
"This is definitely a dancing dress," she says, stepping out into the hallway and pulling the door closed behind her, making sure that it's locked.

"Also, this is going to sound dumb but... is it okay if I hold your hand?"
no subject
There's something about that request that's so unbelievably sweet that if it wasn't going to screw up her eyeliner, Beca might have burst into tears. She nods, holding her hand out to him, wiggling her fingers.
"I'd go so far as to say I'd be really, really pissed if you didn't."
no subject
"Or did I just completely spoil you and now I can't even live up to my own expectations? You know what, it doesn't matter. I am going to wow you and you're going to forget all about me."
no subject
She squeeze his hand in hers, the feeling of his fingers threaded through hers so incredibly familiar and comforting. She likes the way her skirt sways when she walks. She likes the fact that it's him next to her.
"You're doing fine so far, man."

"What? Just so you know I'm not lying about you making me watch them the first time?" she says, shaking her head, swinging his hand slightly alongside her. "Because watching movies is...a lot of what we do, Jesse."
no subject
"But there's a lot of other stuff here that I want to do with you. That I want to show you."
no subject
"Like what?" asks Beca, turning her head and looking up at him. "What've you got planned for me, Jesse Swanson?"
no subject
"There's a bowling alley that's connected to a comic book shop that's pretty awesome and a million different awesome restaurants to go to."
no subject
"As long as I get to hold your hand while we're doing it, I don't care what we're doing," she says, which was sappy as hell but totally true. She could do pretty much anything as long as Jesse was involved.

"I'm still not great at romance but someone's been working on me for four years - so I do my best," she says, bending her head and pressing a kiss against the back of his hand.

"I figure you'll probably make it up to me later," she says, eyebrow raised, smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth. "Hopefully."

"C'mon then, nerd," she teases, letting go of his hand for a moment so that she can walk a few steps ahead of him, walking backwards in heels with her hands spread in challenge. "Bring it on."
