First date
It's ridiculous. She has no idea why she's so nervous.
Back at Barden, they'd never actually done this. Yeah, they'd gone out to dinner together, obviously, but they'd never really bothered dating. After that first kiss at Lincoln Center, they'd just sort of fallen into being together, completely. No awkward dinner dates required. Still, Jesse wants to start over, and Beca can see the wisdom in that. They both different people than the other one remembers. They need to figure each other out again.
She spent most of the day looking for a dress. Hopefully, he'll like this one. God. Why is she so nervous?

"Yeah, but I got my girlfriend back and you lost most of your boyfriend," Jesse pointed out. If she didn't want to talk about it he wouldn't but he was very aware of the fact that she didn't really have anyone else to talk about it to. Maybe she needed to hang out at his place less and meet people. That was her call to make though.

"I didn't lose you. You're right here," she points out, holding up her glass to catch the waiter's eye and order another. "I lost most of my relationship, which...sucks, yeah, but there's no reason we can't get back to where we were eventually." She tilts her head and, for a moment, he just looks so good that her heart beats weird. "It's just...frustrating that you're so much more reserved this time than you were last time."
no subject
Jesse wasn't sure why but it made him feel good to hear her say that she hadn't lost him and that she had faith that they would get back together. That made it so much easier, knowing they were both on the same page. At least they sort of were. But they would get there.
"I know I am. But I don't think that's going to last very long. You kind of have a way of endearing me to you."
no subject
"You know how long it was between Lincoln centre and our first time last time?" she asks, smirking, as the waiter puts another drink down in front of her. "Rough guess?"
no subject
"Was it that night? Because I'm guessing it was pretty close to being that night," Jesse said. If it wasn't that night then the only reason was because the Bellas were celebrating their victory and Beca was spending time with them.
no subject
"Night after," says Beca, and she does feel a little flush of warmth in her face at the memory. "We were both...pretty blurry the night we won."

"And that was after we didn't talk for a month," he pointed out. It had taken them a bit longer than that in the city but it wasn't too long. "And trust me, it's not like I'm not eager to get to that point."
no subject
"I'm not sure what not talking for a month has got to do with anything," she says, rolling her eyes at him. "Was it that bad the last time I was here that you don't want to risk it again?"
no subject
"Because a month isn't that big of a deal but two years is," Jesse said, growing just a bit annoyed that she was either pressuring him or insulting both of them. "And that's not it at all, Beca."
no subject
"I know, I know," she says, holding up her hands in surrender. Her index finger looks naked without the ring he gave her. "I'm being an ass. I'm sorry."
no subject
"How about for tonight we just leave comparisons off the table?" Jesse asked, thankful that he saw their waiter approaching with their food. Being with Beca was great but the tension that was in the air whenever they talked about that subject was incredibly uncomfortable for Jesse.
no subject
"That's easier for you," she points out, but then she nods, smiling thanks at the waiter as he places food down in front of her. "But okay, yeah. That'd probably be way easier. Pretend we really are doing this for the first time, right? See where we end up."

Jesse wasn't surprised that she had to get one last dig in, although it wasn't really a dig. He felt bad that she felt like she had to pick at what she wasn't getting but he wasn't making her do that and he knew this was the right choice. If something really bothered her he hoped she would just be honest about it instead of making it seem like an attack.
"I just want us to enjoy tonight, whatever that look like."
no subject
"You have to get used to my bitchface again," she says, and she holds out her hand to him again. "I'm sorry, okay. I'm having a lovely time. And this burger? Looks amazing."
no subject
"So you're saying that I just need to look at you a lot? Are you going let me stare longingly into your rolling eyes because I could get behind that?" Jesse said with a grin as he reached out to take her hand. He really did hope that she was having a lovely time and she was right about the burger.

"You can look at me as much as you like," says Beca, batting her eyelashes for his benefit before she takes her hand back so she can start on her food. "As long as you remember that you promised me dancing."
no subject
"There will absolutely be dancing later," he said, grabbing a bottle of ketchup to apply it liberally to the burger. The idea of dancing was exciting though, it was an intimate thing that was about as close to sex as you could get without having sex. It was why he took Beca to do this, so they could experience a level of physical intimacy.

Beca glances up from picking the tomato and lettuce off her burger.
"Good," she says, grinning. "Because I don't care what's happened or hasn't happened - I am still going to love dancing with you."
no subject
"Well hopefully you'll have enough energy for it. You know you need to eat vegetables, right? They still know that in the future?" he said with a chuckle as he watched her take the tomato and lettuce off of it.
no subject
"I eat vegetables!" she says, lifting her burger up, ready to take a bite. "Just not on burgers, because it's gross."
no subject
"It is not gross. It diversifies the flavor," he said, smiling at her fondly as he shook his head. He paused for a moment just to watch her tiny mouth eat the giant burger before he took a bite of his own, moaning a bit.
"Okay, that's fantastic."
no subject
"It's a tiny bit gross," says Beca and then her eyes widen slightly at the noise he makes. Which, in her defense is very close to noises she's heard him make during sex. "Good?"
no subject
"You're ridiculous," he said, chewing the rest of his bite before taking another sip of beer. He had to hand it to Beca that a burger was an absolutely great choice, this place did them well. Only she wasn't eating hers.
"And it's great, which you could tell if you took a bite instead of just creepily watching me eat."
no subject
"I...uh...sorry. Yeah." She's totally blushing now; hopefully the light in here is dim enough that Jesse won't notice. Beca takes a bite of her burger and makes a noise very similar to the one Jesse just made. She'd be embarrassed if there was anyone on the table next to them. "God. That's so good."
no subject
"Is that a thing you're into? Because we can totally do that, you just have to let me know," Jesse said, only half teasing. Maybe Beca super enjoyed watching him eat, who knew? Well, future him probably knew but he wasn't here right now. As if to show how okay with it he was, Jesse to a super big, super slow bite of his burger and moaned at how good it was.
